Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria | ![]() |
Born 1855 Chichester, Sussex, UK; died 26 August 1912, Dorchester, Dorset, UK.
He was a Theological Associate of King's College, London, and was made a Deacon in I881 and a Priest the following year.
He was both artist and
clergyman, and his sketches are held in art collections and seen at auction.
He was sent to Australia by the London Anglican
Society for the Propogation of the Gospel after his
ordination in 1881, as a missionary to the Clarence River
region of New South Wales.
He then moved to Tasmania and became a Minor Canon of St David's Cathedral, Hobart (1886-89), and then Rector of Hamilton (1889-96).
He then returned to England and is recorded as holding a number of clerical appointments.
He is thought to be the joint collector (with O.E. Hedberg) of the type of Eucalyptus perriniana F. Muell. ex Rodway (1893).
While it is not conclusive, it appears highly likely that the "Mr Dicker of Hamilton, Tas.", was the Rev. C. W. H. Dicker as he was Rector of Hamilton at the time the type was collected.
