The 1914-18 war, the 'First World War' coincided with the rise in popularity 
of postcards, and also saw the production of millions of embroidered silk postcards.
 France was the largest source, and hundreds of designs catered for the members of the 
Australian, New Zealand, British, French, Canadian and South African armed forces.
